WIN… With Florida Keys & Key West at Brighton Pride

Long established as a premier holiday destination for gay and lesbian travellers, the Florida Keys & Key West will be at the 2013 Brighton & Hove Pride this coming Saturday, 3 August.

In keeping with Pride’s Gay Icon theme this year, the Florida Keys are celebrating their very own icon, Sushi, the islands’ best-known drag queen. For the past 10 years, Sushi has been featured on CNN’s international New Year’s Eve coverage for the red shoe drop, a takeoff on New York City’s famed ball drop, marking the arrival of the new year in Key West by descending in a 6-foot red, sparkling high-heeled shoe in the heart of the Keys’ gay scene on Duval Street.

Those at Brighton & Hoves’ Preston Park event can celebrate the icon that is Sushi by posing for photographs inside the Sushi Glitter Shoe. Visitors can also expect to spot the massive glittery heel in the main parade.

Anyone posing for pictures in the high heel will receive a picture as a memento and it will be displayed in a special gallery online at www.fla-keys.com. All participants will automatically be entered into a competition to win a holiday to the Florida Keys and the opportunity to meet Sushi herself. The prize includes two return flights with British Airways to Miami, the gateway to the Keys, and 3-4 nights’ accommodation in an LGBT guesthouse in the Keys.

Representatives of the Florida Keys will be available on the stand at Brighton Pride with information about Sushi and the Keys’ gay scene, with brochures and an exclusive discounted offer to the Florida Keys with British Airways.

The Florida Keys boast a lively gay scene and an array of LGBT events including Key West Pride, where in 2003 a 2km-long rainbow flag was unfurled along the entire length of Duval Street to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the pride rainbow flag.
