The Best Of Barcelona
Earlier this month we saw a new edition of 080 Barcelona Fashion; five days of fashion, design and creation, showcasing the creativity and innovation of both established and emerging designers. The event saw a total of 32 fashion parades.
The collection, entitled “Bananas is my Business” is inspired by the eccentric and colourful Carmen Miranda. A sporty silhouette of loose shorts, track pants, long sleeve sweaters, tees, and polo shirts adorned large checks in a variety of bold colours. Garments featured Tutti-Fruitti inspired embroidered logos, while caps were covered in 3D plastic fruits.

The bold collection, entitled “Three Thousand Words”, comprised of lemon yellow, lime green, metallic purple, burgundy, cool blue and black accents with print and texture details. A smart silhouette featured tiny-tailored shorts, slim leg pants with voluminous sweaters and jackets on top. Gauzy tee’s and tropical prints increase the collections wearability for the summer months.
Comprised of slightly oversized silhouettes, the collection had a strong emphasis on cut-and-sew techniques, patchwork, print and a mish-mash of patterns.
Maite Albéniz Zúñiga’s collection, entitled “Angel”, took Mick Jagger as a reference. A slim, clean silhouette compliments the pallet of pastel greens, baby blues, soft pinks and subtle yellows along with whites and golds, creating a lucid, attractive and fresh image. Daring use of gold thread embroidery and Swarovski elements combined with luxe fabrics and trimmings create the “Rock Star” image.
Design trio Brain&Beast presented their SS14 offering, entitled “Exotica”. Inspired by geometrical equations in which nothing is random, the collection reflects on games, riddles and hieroglyphics. Oversized garments in a mish-mash of prints and bold colours came together for one of the most exciting shows of the season.
