Richard Nicholl’s Avant-Garde Approach To SS14
For SS14, Richard Nicoll promised to celebrate the outsiders of the world and to introduce us to new standards of what is considered normal. Indeed, his collection delivered a new take on the most popular men’s garments and a “new normal” that will be very easy to get used to.
From shirts and smart jackets to sweaters, shorts, t-shirts, bomber jackets and coats, Nicoll transformed every style that you will find on the average Joe into one-of-a-kind pieces with the use of shiny fabrics, see-through material, leather and a very modern colour palette in grey, black and various shades of blue. Stand-out pieces were tops adorned with large photographic prints created by artist Linder Sterling, who is known for featuring provocative imagery in her work.
The strength of Nicoll’s collection for SS14 is its avant-garde approach to very traditional and popular cuts and pieces of clothing. While the collection has its novelties, each and every piece is very accessible, can be incorporated into a more toned-down wardrobe and combined with more traditional clothing, which is which is still very important in menswear.
