Matthew Miller “I am not the artist, you are”
Over the last few seasons, Matthew Miller perfected the art of expressing ideas through his designs while maintaining a high level of simplicity and accessibility. His collection for SS14 was no exception.
Under the motto “I am not the artist, you are” Miller created a collection inspired by the environment of art galleries and exhibitions, working exclusively with Black, White and several shades of Grey. The line consists of boxy T-shirts, jumpers, coats, jeans, trousers and formal wear, inspired by simple every-day clothing and sportswear and made of leather, denim and other materials. Subtle details include laser-cut prints, key-chains, cracked paint and concrete toggles.
It was Miller’s intention to create pieces that are wearable and appeal to the every-day man and he definitely succeeded. The SS14 collection’s message is not as cryptic or in-your-face as that of countless other designers. His pieces are not adventurous or over the top, while still feeling incredibly fresh and young.
