Christopher Shannon, The Master Of Transformation
Christopher Shannon is a master of transforming the boy next door into the coolest kid on the block, with his ability to use colours, materials and innovative cuts to reinvent the most basic items of clothing.
This season, Shannon created a number of double-waistband shorts and jackets with detachable sleeves, but for the most part his SS14 collection consists of traditionally constructed shirts, T-shirts, shorts and trousers. However, making use of high-gloss materials, dizzying prints, vibrant colours, floral prints and translucent PVC, Shannon reassured us that the peacock was on the forefront of his mind when he created this collection. As his inspiration he names the birth of the super club era and the “anything-goes era of Liverpool and Manchester clubs.” To emphasize that point, he sent out his models with glittery hairdos in a multitude of colours – a style that could very possibly catch on with London’s fashionista crowd.
Whereas many designers currently choose to hide their innovative ideas in the detail, Shannon created a collection for the modern-day peacock who is not afraid of using colour to stand out and be seen, which gives his collection a very refreshing and much needed vibe.
