Marc Jacobs for Diet Coke
Marc Jacobs has been named creative director of Diet Coke for 2013, just in time to celebrate the soft drink’s 30th birthday. Following in the footsteps of Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier, Jacobs has designed a range of special cans to be revealed at the end of the month. The iconic bottles will also receive a makeover, and will be unveiled in March. Coca-Cola explained, the range will “capture the rise of female empowerment through the Eighties, Nineties and Noughties.”
“I feel very privileged to be the new Creative Director of Diet Coke and put my stamp on the 30th anniversary campaign. Diet Coke is an icon… and I love an icon!” Marc Jacobs explained.
An ad staring the designer himself has been released online, entitled “Photo Booth Break”. It features Jacobs exposing his chiseled body in a nod to the famous Diet Coke ads of the 90’s. “I still think its hysterical people want me to take my shirt off” admitted Jacobs, “I’m going to be 50 in two months, so I guess I should be glad.”
